FAQs

General Questions

Our silk scarves are actually competitively priced with other 100% pure silk products in the market. The silk scarves we sell are authentic designer brands like Armine, Aker, Pierre Cardin and Cacharel. These scarves are made with meticulously crafted with top quality material and workmanship.

Each scarves are individually hand-rolled and hand-stitched for its finishing touch. Crafted using the latest technology, these scarves are water resistant and stain resistant. Also, non-carcinogenic dyes are used. You are ensure of purchasing a premium product.

Of course you can find cheaper silk scarves elsewhere, but the quality will not be the same. If you have found online "silk scarves" that are much cheaper than ours, you should be wary of buying from that company. Pure silk is expensive and rare, so if someone is selling them brand new for cheap, than they are probably not pure silk.

Some online stores will list products as "silk" when they are a faux silk (polyester). When you touch pure silk in person, you will be able to understand if it is silk or not, especially when you compare it to something that is fake, or polyester.

Silk is a much highly-coveted natural fabric that is luxurious, stronger, lightweight and breathable.

We do not attempt to confuse our customers. When our products say "silk," it means they are 100% pure silk; guaranteed.

Most of the silk scarves we sell on our site are made with mainly silk twill weave, unless stated othterwise. The weave refers to the way that the fibers of the silk are put together to make the garment.

Both silk satin and silk twill are luxurious and high-quality fabrics made from silk fibers, but they have some differences in terms of their texture, weave, and appearance.

satin weave will give the fabric a shimmer appearance on the surface, but dull on the inside or back. A satin weave can make the scarf more slippery, giving it a beautiful draping effect.

twill weave can be identified by the tiny diagonal lines that appear on the surface when looked at closely. This weave makes the fabric stronger, with a dull appearance. The twill weave is not as slippery and is more structured, making it easy to shape as desired-- such as in making the "peak" in the Turkish hijab style. Soils and stains are also less noticeable on this type of weave.

In summary, silk satin is a smooth and lustrous fabric with a glossy finish, while silk twill has a diagonal weave with a subtle pattern and a matte finish. Both fabrics are high-quality and luxurious, but they have different textures and appearances that make them suitable for different types of garments and uses.

When cared for properly, silk scarves can outlast scarves made of other fabrics such as polyester. However, since silk is delicate, it should be handled with care.

Washing:

  • Unless the scarf becomes soiled, a silk scarf can be worn many times before needing to be washed.
  • We recommend that you dry clean your silk scarves for the best result.
  • Alternatively, you can hand-wash your silk scarves. This can be done in cold or lukewarm water using a very small amount of mild detergent dissolved in the water. Keep the temperature of the water the same throughout the wash and rinse, and do not soak the scarf as this may cause the dye to fade. Let the scarf air dry.

DO NOT machine wash your silk scarves. NEVER put your silk scarves in the dryer as this may damage the fabric.

Ironing:

  • Iron your silk scarf on the reverse side, and on the lowest setting. Most irons have a "silk" setting, so you can use that.
  • Silk should be ironed while still damp. If it is dry, spray water on it with a spritzer bottle first.
  • Do not use steam as this can leave watermarks.

Wearing and Storing:

  • When wearing your silk scarves, do not use a safety pin as it may damage the fabric. It is best to you a very thin straight pin (one with a large head will keep it from going through the fabric).
  • Store your silk scarves in a safe place where they will not be damaged. Inside a cotton pillowcase or other breathable fabric is a good idea; do not store in plastic.
  • Since silk is susceptible to moths and other insects, be sure to store moth balls with it.  Some women who wear their silk scarves often like to hang them in a safe place in the house, such as pinned to a curtain.
  • Silk can wrinkle very easily, so don't leave it sitting unfolded or in the laundry hamper.

Our square hijabs come in a variety of sizes, but most of them are 90 x 90cm (about 36 x 36in). This is a standard size for Turkish hijabs, but some people may be used to larger scarves and so consider these as small.

Our square hijab scarves can be found in this page

Unless noted otherwise, all of the Armine, Aker, Pierre Cardin, Cacharel, Silk Home, Lavender and Vissona square hijabs are 90 x 90cm.

We do have some styles that are larger, with the largest currently being 110 x 110cm in voile (100% cotton) fabric. Check out the new Poplin range here

Though some may not be used to this size,  its popularity in Turkey is a confirmation that it is not too small. There are many ways you can wear this size scarf, some of which will provide ample coverage in the front.

Yes, we do. We recently carry square scarves that are 100 x 100cm and 110 x 110cm.

Because these size are not popular in Turkey, we managed to source it from Indonesia.

Our 110 x 110cm range is in Voile fabric (100% cotton) which is absolutely lightweight and breathable. Perfect for summer!

Someone should be home when your parcel is due to be delivered as we may need a signature. However, don't worry if this isn't possible as our delivery partner usually tries to deliver more than once.

Alternatively they'll leave a card confirming that they've either left it with a neighbour, left it in a safe place, when they will try to re-deliver or give you details on how to collect it.

We've looked into this in huge detail and, having carefully weighed up the pros and cons, we're confident that we've currently got the right balance between plastic and cardboard.

If we simply switched all our packaging to cardboard, our carbon emissions would actually increase by 50% - yes really! This is because plastic packaging is more durable and lighter to transport than cardboard, and takes up less space in a lorry - which means fewer vehicles on the road and reduced climate impact.

We know plastic isn't perfect though, so our plan is to increase the amount of recycled content in our plastic packaging (currently at 25%) and switch to widely recyclable plastics.

If you send your packaging back to us, we'll recycle it for you - either by reusing it, or by processing it back into plastic pellets which are then made into new products (made from 25% recycled content).

For deliveries where we do need to use cardboard (such as bulky items), we use 100%-recycled boxes made from responsibly sourced wood.

HijabPlanet Co has no control over these charges and we can't tell you what the cost would be, as customs policies and import duties vary widely from country to country.

It might be a good idea to contact your local customs office for current charges before you order, so you are not surprised by charges you were not expecting.

COVID-19 has resulted in significant disruption in international airfreight movements. Some international services may not be available, and all international shipments will be significantly delayed.

We seek your understanding during this difficult time globally.

If you have not received your parcel and your tracked parcel is showing as delivered, a card should have been left advising you to collect your delivery from your local post office. If a signatory was not available, the card should provide details on where and how to pick up your order or to rearrange delivery.

If your package has not arrived, you have allowed the correct time for delivery, and you have not received a calling card showing  attempted delivery at your shipping address, please contact our Customer Service Team.
